Rules for using SHSAT Specialist

Educational purpose and score estimates
SHSAT Specialist provides independent SHSAT practice and estimated performance feedback. A predicted score or score range is an unofficial practice estimate only. It is not produced, reviewed, or endorsed by NYC Public Schools or Pearson, and it does not guarantee a future SHSAT score, admission decision, or academic outcome.
SHSAT Specialist estimates performance with its own item-response model. The model considers a user’s complete pattern of correct and incorrect responses and the internal difficulty ratings of the items administered, blends a current 50-item public planning curve with a legacy nonlinear public conversion, and then maps separate ELA and Math estimates to a practice scale. NYC Public Schools does not publish the operational test’s item parameters, routing rules, or score-conversion table. SHSAT Specialist’s model therefore cannot reproduce the official scoring process and may overestimate or underestimate actual performance.
AI-generated original practice
Every question and explanation in SHSAT Specialist’s original diagnostic, skill-drill banks, and adaptive mock tests is generated or materially assisted by artificial intelligence before it is placed on the site. Questions are not generated live by users. AI-generated educational content can contain factual, mathematical, grammatical, formatting, or answer-key errors, so users should treat it as practice material rather than an official authority and report suspected mistakes.
SHSAT Specialist does not host or reproduce official SHSAT questions, passages, answer choices, diagrams, explanations, or PDF files. Links on the Sources page open materials hosted by the official NYC SHSAT portal.
Accounts and email
Users age 13 or older may create their own SHSAT Specialist accounts. A child under 13 may use only a parent-managed account after a parent or legal guardian receives direct notice, gives consent, and creates the child’s username and password. The parent or guardian is responsible for managing those credentials and may revoke consent or request deletion. Users must provide accurate information, keep account credentials private, and notify the service if an account may have been compromised.
Verification, password-recovery, and security emails are part of operating an email account. Product announcements are optional and can be turned on or off from the account page.
Acceptable use
- Do not disrupt the service, bypass access limits, automate excessive requests, or attempt to access another user’s information.
- Do not copy, redistribute, sell, or republish substantial portions of the question banks or explanations except where separately permitted.
- Do not use SHSAT Specialist to violate school rules, laws, or another person’s rights.
Official materials and ownership
Official practice materials linked from SHSAT Specialist remain on their respective owner’s website. Original SHSAT Specialist questions, explanations, software, and presentation are protected materials. External source information is listed on the Sources page.
Availability
The service may change, pause, or remove features to correct content, protect users, or maintain reliability. Accounts that misuse the service may be limited or suspended.
Disclaimer and limitation
Practice content is provided on an “as available” basis. Although SHSAT Specialist aims for accuracy, questions and explanations may contain mistakes and should be reviewed before high-stakes reliance. Any legally required rights remain unaffected.
